Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I began our session by introducing the student to two different texts to gauge his interest. He then began reading a selected text. He then completed a picture walk of the text. After that, he listed 5 key prediction words. He used the Read, Cover, Remember, Retell strategy on each page to demonstrate his ability to summarize. At the completion of the text, he was able to give a well rounded summary. "
"Met with the student and discussed his intentions for wanting to learn Spanish. We worked on pronunciation in the alphabet, numbers, and vowels. We agreed upon a schedule to meet twice a week, unless otherwise noted."
"The student and I worked through her study guide for her upcoming government unit test. She was very confident in her answers for the multiple choice questions. I cautioned her to read the questions thoroughly, as some of them asked for the "out of place" characteristic or fact rather than the "true" information. I also told her to focus on the definitions for the different types of government, as there were several in this unit and I felt it was the material most likely to trip her up."
"For this session we worked on the AAMC practice test 4 and completed passages I through V. Topics covered in these passages included mechanics (gravity), basic stoichiometry and reactivity of SO3, NH3, H2SO4, the Doppler effect, acid/base titration, and calculations of solutions involving molarity. We are making progress on increasing test-taking efficiency, taking brief notes, and using diagrams to help in answering questions. "
"We covered how to generate functions for the curvature shape of symmetric and cylindrical objects. No concern."
"As discussed, we focused on adding tones to some of the student's existing vocabulary base. He was great and I think he had fun playing our memory game! Hopefully he'll be noting in the notes over any of the written material that he takes home - good practice!"
