Overland Park HSPT Tutoring FAQ
The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is administered by private and parochial high schools and is given to students in eighth grade. The exam is used as part of the admission process into private and parochial high schools. The HSPT takes two-and-a-half hours to complete and consists of 300 questions.
The standard HSPT is made up of five sections. These include language, math, quantitative skills, reading, and verbal skills. The language section is made up of questions concerning grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. The math section consists of geometry, arithmetic, and geometry questions. The quantitative section is similar to the math section, but it does not cover algebra. It also extends beyond traditional geometry by adding geometric and non-geometric comparisons. The reading sections focuses on vocabulary and reading comprehension. Finally, the verbal skills section consists of questions on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, logic, and verbal classification.
It is also possible that the test your child takes will have additional sections. These may include sections on science, mechanical aptitude, and Catholic religion. If your child's test does have these additional sections, they will have more time to complete the exam. Your child will be required to know material in a variety of different areas. If you want to try to make sure that your child performs well on the HSPT so that they can get into the private or parochial school of their choice, it may be a good decision to contact a private tutor. Varsity Tutors can find your child a tutor in Overland Park who is as adept at the material on the HSPT as they are at teaching the HSPT.
A skilled HSPT tutor in Overland Park, KS, can assess your child's abilities to try to help them perform their best on the HSPT. Your child's tutor is able to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop a study plan that could help your child get the most out of their study sessions.
The tutors that our educational directors can help you and your child find in Overland Park, KS, are experienced professionals who are skilled in working to help students try to understand the intricacies of the HSPT. Your child's tutor can assist them by giving them insight into what types of questions they are likely to face on the exam. Their tutor can also help them develop effective study and test-taking skills.
Your child's tutor can meet them face-to-face online or in person. Their tutor will meet them at any time and location that works best for you and your child. So if your child prefers studying at home, at Cross Creek Park, at Homer's Coffee House, or at the Johnson County Library, their tutor can meet them there.
