Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We brainstormed on paper the main topic and three details of an essay due this week. The introductory paragraph of the essay was written by the student. An example of a submitted and returned essay was seen. The student will write a draft of essay that we will examine during the following session for proper sentence structure and punctuation."
"Today we finalized the student's other two college essays, and we then moved on to drafting the last two essays. We will look over them during our next session."
"The student worked on a project that revolved around her creating the scenery and costumes for her own interpretation of Macbeth. We worked on proper argument structure and explanations of those arguments. Then, we edited her arguments using a PDF that I created urging argument clarity and use of proper transition to ensure flow."
"The student and I worked on correcting his analysis paper in the Jefferson topic. He is struggling with basic grammar situations such as run-ons, fragments, and punctuation problems. we discussed those in class today. I also had him do a book review, expressing his beliefs in the book's strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I had him create a vocabulary list by looking back at his text. His homework will be to find definitions of those words and put them into sentences to master new words in new contexts."
"The student and I worked on finding the area of squares. Student wrote number sentences and drew pictures to aid in understanding why we solve the area by multiplying the length and the width. He and I reviewed past, present, and future tense of verbs. Student wrote and verbally articulated examples of past, present, and future verbs and made a verb chart with different tenses. Student wrote sentences and identified the correct tense to use. Student is making progress with understanding irregular verbs and tense and needs to keep reviewing these concepts."
"The student and I worked on fluency and comprehension today. He reads very fluently now, so we worked more on finding answers in the text. This was hard for him, but he worked hard for most of the session. He has a good memory, so a lot of the questions he could answer from memory. We will continue to work on this next time, but he definitely did a good job today!"
