Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the entire session working on essay number two for the student's application. The first thirty minutes we spent discussing and taking notes on key points, then the student started to write and edit. By the end of the session, both essays were in complete form. The next step is to edit for word choice, sentence structure, and clarity. This should not require more than one more session."
"The student and I discussed the upcoming deadlines for his college applications. We spent the rest of the session discussing experiences from his life that could be used to inspire the writing portion of the Common Application. We talked about several different stories which he could use to answer one of the five Common App essay prompts."
"Today I reviewed and edited the student's work on his college application personal statement and supplementary essay. We now have rough drafts for his proofreaders to check through and he can submit these to them by tomorrow. He should finish entering the information he can into his applications that are due by the time I see him next (Saturday)."
"The student and I worked on her reading and writing homework. We went over how to follow directions and when transition words/phrases came up in an assignment, we took a pause to review what they are their purpose. I assigned him to write a couple of sentences everyday as well as read. We also agreed upon a book for him to read."
"The student and I worked on her study guide for the social studies test that's coming up on Thursday. I assisted her with study and memorization skills. She did a great job following my directions and memorizing vocabulary terms & definitions."
"The student and I worked on his critical reading assignment. This assignment involved reading 2 opposing articles on the same topic and writing a summary, analysis, and response on both the pro and con argument. He chose to read and evaluate articles on the banking crisis and the government's involvement. We read and discussed both articles and answers to the questions for the summary and response. For the response, we discussed each author's' conclusion and reasons for their conclusions; and for the analysis we brainstormed what the value of assumption and reality assumption was in each article. This was a time intensive assignment involving many components. The student does a nice job asking for help when/where needed."
