Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the basic Cantonese phrase online from Pg. 1-10 and also practiced pronunciation of Cantonese words throughout the lessons. We will continue on the pages tomorrow and focus more on conversational practice in Cantonese"
"During two sessions, the student and I worked on sentences she prepared using the subjunctive. We corrected them together and direct object pronouns came up in one of them. For the second session I asked her to prepare a small paragraph detailing her morning routine, which required to use reflexive verbs and the DOP. We went over the paragraph and I gave several more examples of verbs that can also be conjugated as reflexive ones. By the end of the session, she was implementing these new concepts independently and creatively."
"We covered the conditional tense and practiced the irregulars, the meanings of the conditional, its formation and uses of the conditional in different contexts. The student worked on a Spanish website, we did a speaking based conditional exercise in the textbook, wrote out some practice, and ended by recycling common verbs in Spanish and practiced conjugating them in each of the different tenses that she has learned. It was a very productive session and we covered a lot of material. She has a positive attitude, is focused, and directs the session to meet her learning goals. She asks great questions!"
"We covered seasons and weather again today. I am trying to reinforce vocabulary and concepts for the student, so we engaged in a variety of activities to help her memory. Among these were singing songs, scrapbooking, and playing flip card. I've found that, due to her age, it's better to engage in games and activities instead of purely using flashcards or singing. I left the student with some homework - pasting weather terms into a chart. Overall, the student has definitely progressed with vocabulary."
"We covered some adjectives the student went over in class. He had some trouble putting them in order or in the right place. However, with the help of some illustration, we were able to help him with those issues."
"We discussed Pokemon in Chinese as a lead-in, as well talked about what we like. We learned how to ask someone what they like and what their favorite thing is, and we learned how to respond. Additionally, we learned characters for every new word (and some Pokemon names). Their homework is to finish last week's homework (watch one Chinese movie). They also have the option to listen to two hours of Chinese music and watch either 30 episodes of a Chinese show or three more Chinese movies. An extra reward will be given if the student does all of that."
