Today the student and I worked on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and turning fractions into decimals. He did an excellent job working hard at guessing and checking when he simplified fractions. I was really happy with his focus. He very clearly understands the theory behind adding and subtracting fractions. Decimals were more of a struggle because he needs more practice with long division. However, he showed signs of improvement by the end of the session. As long as he remembers not to rush through the work, he'll be successful. Overall, it was a great session!

Tutoring review by Carolyn in Oneida, NY
We reviewed solving trigonometric equations, focusing on checking her factoring and using trig identities. We did several practice problems. We then reviewed for her Chemistry test, focusing on percent yield and limiting reactants. She advocated very well for herself about going over the concepts, and once we compared the concepts to cooking, she did really well.

Today we completed practice problems in preparation for the upcoming AZ merit test. The student did pretty well with most of the practice problems, but he still has difficulty with questions that require a lot of reading or problem solving. He is getting better, but we will need to continue to work on skills such as inference and data analysis.

Tutoring review by Trieu in Oneida, NY
We started the session with a short quiz over the multiplication table. She was able to recall the answer to most of my questions very quickly. We then moved on to learning about division with decimals. We discussed moving the decimal points by X number of spaces and when it is necessary to add zeros. At the end of the session, I talked to her mother about how I want to shift my focus during sessions to the test. I asked her mother if she can request material from the student's teacher so that she and I can practice and target her weaknesses. Overall, I am very pleased with her progress.
