"Session Five Tutoring Review During the student's fifth session we focused on Tutoring Goal(s) 1, 3, 5, and 6, which involved problem solving, reinforcing studying algebra, developing problem solving techniques, building her confidence, and reviewing her homework. Below is a synopsis of the topics we reviewed: We reviewed the difference between the commutative and associative properties and which operations are included in these properties. We discussed factoring and worked several examples including binomial expressions. We reviewed how to F.O.I.L. out binomial expressions. We practiced solving multivariable equations and combining like terms. We reviewed slope intercept form and how to use this form to graph equations. We compared two given equations and learned how to recognize parallel and perpendicular lines by their equations and plotting their graphs. Student's Homework and our Plan for Session VI: Our next session is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30pm. I once again asked her to review her homework for tonight and write out any areas that she still may feel unsure or confused about. I asked her to take the time to review the chapters in her book along with her lecture notes. Wednesday we will have a brief overview of any concepts that she may not understand from her homework, and then we will focus on new problems from any assigned homework. Notes: She is doing very well in algebra! She still has a tendency to hurry and claim not to know what to do if the answer is not immediately apparent to her. I still believe it would benefit her to put in some extra study time in reviewing the concepts outlined in her textbook to reinforce her practice."
"We worked on a short review for his upcoming test next week. Most of the problems were on using L'Hopital's rule for determining a limit. He is doing really well and can actually work out most of the problems on his own. The only weak point for him now that I could see is on trigonometric functions, so I plan to bring up more problems involving them for practice."
"Today, we covered division of polynomials by long division and synthetic division. Then, we started reviewing for her test. We started with simple factoring of polynomials and moved to special cases. We will cover all the other topics next session"
"The student switched to an Algebra 2 class this semester. Worked on a packet of practice problems given by teacher to review material that was covered last semester in her new class. Problems focused on solving and graphing quadratic equations."
"The student would like to improve her math grade from a B to an A. We started the session with some review of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I then tested her general pre algebra skills. She did excellent on all of that. She takes virtual classes, so we went over the first two assignments for this week and reviewed the third. On our next session, we will review what she did and prep her for the quiz that she has coming up."
"The student and I worked on Chapter 5, 6, and 7 review problems. We focused on integration by parts and partial fractions since this is new material for her. She also had questions about optimization problems and how to set up the equations. I gave her some tips on what to choose for her variables in integration by parts."
