Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a first draft that she had written on her own prior to our session. She had a good topic and strong outline and her writing skills are very good. I worked with her on the attention grabber, story telling, adding more interesting verbs, adjectives and varying the sentence structure. We also talked about the list of schools she is applying to. Overall it was a solid session."
"For today, the student was to write drafts of her two university application essays and work on editing her application. Although only one of the essays materialized, she did attempt the other, and we were able to have a useful brainstorming session and complete a full draft of it in the session tonight. We looked at her first essay and edited it down to 715 words, which is still a bit over count, but I want her to try to finish that process on her own as concise writing is a good skill to develop. For next week she has three assignments. First, she is going to draft her second music school essay. Second, she is going to look at her edited copies of her previously completed essays and applications and see if there is anything she wants to add, delete, or change. Third, she needs to draft her final university essay. She has spread these assignments out for the week with one each on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If she completes these assignments, we will be able to finalize *three* essays on Sunday, leaving only two to finish. She said she is adapting to the idea of having a schedule, and that although she is still working on compiling all her duties and activities into one place, she's started to feel empowered by the task. Visualizing her next day helps her to feel in control, and she really likes that."
"Completed editing/revision of college (nursing) application essays. Engagement for this student is complete."
