Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met to review for a pre-calc quest. She is studying circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas. She needed help reviewing the concepts. The session went well, and she felt more confident after an hour of tutoring."
"We did plenty of trig problems ranging from simplifying trig equations to proving that a trig function is equal to another and to solving trig equations. A lot of these problems involved using trig identities."
"We worked on the student's new material: arithmetic and geometric sequences. It was a bit challenging and bumpy to get started, but he seemed to be getting it by the time we were finished."
"The session was spent working on an extra credit problem involving quadrilateral areas, law of sines and law of cosines. The problem was solved and explained to the student. She seemed to understand it well."
"The student and I went over statistical word problems in preparation for her upcoming quiz/exam, and she has a clear process for answering the problems. Her biggest area of improvement was in interpreting the word problems."
"We covered how to factor out components of quadratic formulas. That was what she needed help with due to her missing 2 classes. I taught her the method of determining the factors of a quadratic equation. Before teaching her how to factor, I instructed her how to multiply quadratic factors together; then, moved on to how to determine the factors in a quadratic equation. She was able to successfully answer all of her homework problems."
"We went over a test review worksheet. It was mostly integrals with natural log and trig functions. She knew how to do it all. She had trouble in the beginning with simplifying the initial integral expression but then she started looking for the simplifications more and was able to figure them out more quickly. She is going to keep doing more practice problems from the book to prepare for her test."
"I worked through the student's math homework with him consisting of simple proofs, mostly reasoning congruent triangles from SSS, SAS and ASA. We also completed a few problems using congruence of sides and angles to necessitate the use of algebraic expressions to solve for variables."
"We went over some topics that the student was struggling with, specifically square root properties, FOILing, and properties of graphing and asymptotes. The student grasped the problems quickly and had some problems to do for practice on the concepts we reviewed."
"In this one hour lesson we went over Chi Square test. We specifically talked about how it could be written up for the student's homework. We also went over an introduction to multivariate statistics."
"The student and I worked on math again this session. We focused on his test subjects which will be graphing linear equations using both slope intercept form and standard form, how to graph and create a line given two points, and how to identify the slope and y intercept of a line. We also discussed homework for about 20 minutes which was solving systems of equations using elimination"
"Today we covered rational functions and graphs. I was informed that the student scored a B on her last exam. She has an exam tomorrow. Student struggled the most with graphing the functions. I have no concerns with this session and I'm confident she will do fine on her next exam."
