How can Phonics tutoring help you succeed?

Having a proper understanding of phonics is important for young students. Being able to develop the skills necessary to pronounce words and speak English understandably is something that should be understood at an early age. For this reason, if your child is struggling with phonics, it is important that they get the assistance they need to fix the problem at an early age, before they develop any speech-language issues. Fortunately, there are a number of private tutors who are happy to try to help your child get the assistance needed to succeed. If you are seeking phonics tutors near Omaha, NE, Varsity Tutors may help you connect with a tutor who may meet your child's needs.

All of the tutors whom our educational directors may connect you with in Omaha are skilled in teaching phonics. They may be able to work closely with your child, giving them the guidance and practice needed to overcome their obstacles. Unlike classroom lessons, private phonics tutoring gives your child the ability to benefit from an active learning program. Their tutor may be able to monitor their progress and give them important feedback that may help them improve their speaking and reading ability.

Session Summaries by Phonics Tutors

Omaha, NE Phonics tutoring
The student was great today! He stayed focused. We reviewed all the letters and their sounds to begin. We did a worksheet from his book about comparing numbers. He is doing really well with counting and comparing numbers. We practiced writing the letter P. He was careful and conscientious when writing. I gave him a quick quiz in letter recognition. He correctly identified 11 letters, and he knew the sounds to almost all the letter, which is excellent. When we read Mr. Peabody & Sherman: Let Them Eat Cake, he was engaged and asked questions.

We started with a card game today. We used Scrabble cards to make CVC words by starting with one and then changing one letter in turn to make and read new words. We spent a little time working on the student's spelling words for next week. We then went on to our regular "lesson," where she read sounds, wrote sounds, then read words and wrote words. We finished by doing some word blending and reading some books that she brought from school.

The student completed a worksheet on words with "i.e." and words with "ed" endings, studied his spelling words, read the beginning of a space mission story and answered questions to complete it, reviewed vocabulary flashcards, and practiced spelling with letter tiles. He is doing very well in his study of phonograms; he spelled most of his spelling words correctly without hints, and he read sight words in the story and vocabulary flashcards perfectly. I would like to continue with a focus on vowel pairs and writing practice.

We spent a little bit of time reviewing long e and then spent most of the session working on long and short o. The student's pretty good with the basics of long and short o, but having some difficulty with o+r. We're going to focus more on o next lesson and get into the alternate spellings that make o or are essentially o (dialect specific). I think trying to remember so many rules is a bit difficult right now, especially since there are exceptions to all of the rules. I recommended focusing mostly on following the rules and not worrying too much about the exceptions.

We worked on a new sight word (what). We practiced using this word in different sentences. After that, we worked on math (addition worksheet). We also reviewed other sight words (you, the, see, like, etc.). Before the end of our session, we played a matching game with before and after events.
