Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was another good session with this student! He was still struggling a bit with area, surface area, and volume, specifically with knowing the formulas and cylinders backwards and forwards. We went over the ratios and how things increase and decrease in rectangular prism measurements, and how it directly relates to volume, which seemed to make sense to him. I gave him practice on that. I told him that he only needs to do as much as he can, and we'll pick up wherever he lands during our next session."
"Today we went over two digit division, area, and perimeters. The student had no trouble with the division, but struggled with the area problems due to their difficulty. He seemed to be getting it towards the end, but we will go over it next time to solidify his knowledge."
"Today we worked on division, including reducing fractions. Next time we will warm up with multiplication facts."
"Today we worked on math problems from the student's test preparation book. We worked on a rate problem, a couple of area problems using geometry, a ratio problem, a probability question, a problem using exponents, a geometry problem using the Pythagorean theorem, and a word problem with one variable."
"Today we worked on the timeline for the student's book project. It was a great way to review his reading and get a sense of whether he understood what he read. We used Google Docs to collaborate. We laid out what he needed to do, and I encouraged him to think about how he would present it to get an A. He will work on it this week. I will send him an email with some things to be sure to put on it, and then I will have him send me what he has done before our next session."
"Today we worked out of the student's workbook. We covered fractions and shapes as well as telling time in both clock and analog format. We also worked on word problems that involved addition and subtraction, and I showed her how to highlight the important information in a word problem and we discussed which words are clues to solving the problem. For reading, we read several paragraphs from her reading workbook and then she answered the questions on comprehension. I assigned her four more of these to do for homework, as well as a page from the math workbook."
