Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on problems with place value and estimation. She had some difficulty with rounding to the thousands place in numbers above ten thousand. She also had difficulty rounding dollars based on cents. With review of the strategies and a number line, she was able to successfully complete addition and subtraction problems using estimation. She has developed more fluency with using the properties of addition to solve addition problems. We will continue to work on place value, estimation, and money to ensure she develops fluency with these concepts."
"The student and I worked on the concept of prime and composite numbers. We worked on our multiples as we identified prime and composite numbers. I wrapped things up with him working on the two worksheets that I brought. I would just like for him to continue practicing on his multiples."
"The student and I worked on the essay, math, and reading sections of the ACT. For the essay, we analyzed each of the three perspectives on standardized testing and wrote an outline and thesis. For math, we completed the last several questions in this section, including polynomial functions, logs, geometry, and composite functions. For reading, we worked on humanities and natural sciences passages."
"The student and I worked on word problems that required her to perform multi-steps. She is learning to carefully read and answer the questions. This is especially challenging when there are multiple steps. She also worked on putting her spelling words in alphabetical order."
"The student and I worked on writing expressions and equations from word problems. She needed help a bit with understanding how to translate operations from keywords in word problems, but with practice, she should become proficient. She is definitely understanding concepts and definitions, such as the definition of an equation. We also worked on how to form answers to answer content questions in social studies."
"The student and I worked primarily on her math homework and a bit on science (she had completed most of her science work). Because her science teacher allows them to have open note quizzes, she is more confident in science. This was our first time working on math, and she struggled a lot with remembering concepts in preparation for her upcoming math test. I think for future sessions I want to work on setting some sort of plan with her to help her study throughout the week, whether it's flashcards or something else that will help her retain the information so that we don't spend the majority of the Sunday session reviewing concepts from previous lessons. She's a very visual learner, so drawing pictures and charts helps her a TON. She's a quick learner as well, I think she just has to get into the habit of studying regularly so that she doesn't forget what she learned in class."
