Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"both students completed their math Drills. Student A has completed the multiplication sheet and will move to the division sheet. Student B will continue on the multiplication sheet. They worked to complete two-digit multiplication problems using the lattice math strategy. Student A worked on reading comprehension strategies as he read through a fourth grade text. He will need to work on gathering more in-depth details to describe the main idea. Student B worked on addition and counting remembering that the nine indicates the movement into the next tens group and counting the tens group in order. He also worked more on the -ea and -ee word families and sight words."
"Covered discerning relevant from irrelevant data. Mental mathematics. Student struggling with remembering multiplication tables. Student has a positive attitude. Suggested repeating some of the exercises we did during our session. Left student with additional work to extend the tables we worked on. "
"Did math with the student. We're still working on his multiplication. He is getting much better with memorizing them. Also we did fast facts with multiplication and subtraction. He's working much quicker and is beginning to understand numbers in his head instantly as opposed to having to use his fingers. I gave him a strategy using base 2, base 5, and base 10 to figure out problems. With student two, we did some spelling, some writing, and some reading. He is getting much better with his reading and is learning how to use his site word skills. We will continue to work on his writing, my focus is for him to take his time with each letter. Both are doing very well."
"Due to being sick, the student fell behind in his math assignments, so we spent this session completing as many overdue worksheets as we could finish, most requiring him to practice all four operations and some required him to determine which operation he should use."
"During our last session, I helped him complete his reading response to his nightly reading assignment. He has started a new book that is part of the series he has been reading: an historical/fantasy story. He seems to be gaining confidence in his writing and commented that this last response is the most he has ever written. Next, we completed his math assignment which involved the finding of the GCF using two different methods. He seems to have mastered both techniques. During our work, we talked about methods that can be used to quickly find multiples and factors."
"During our last tutoring session, we practiced topics that will be coming in her next unit. We first completed problems involving riddles over place value, which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy. We also practiced problems involving order of operations which provided her with success. We continued by practicing factors/multiples."
