How can Math tutoring help you succeed?

Being able to understand and apply basic math principles is an important component of success throughout one's life. We use math when we work with money, convert from the metric system, and look at tables, charts, and graphs. Because of how important a foundation in math is, children are taught arithmetic at an early age. If you are the parent of a grade school student who is struggling with math, consider placing them in one-on-one sessions so they may get the assistance they need. An expert math tutor in Oklahoma City, OK, may give them the chance to learn concepts slowly and gradually until they thoroughly comprehend the subject.

Contact Varsity Tutors today. We may aid you in finding a professional math tutor in Oklahoma City who may cater a study plan specifically designed for your child. This means that lessons may be designed with your student's goals and needs in mind. Whether they need to get a better understanding of the subject, or they have to prepare for the End-of-Instruction assessment or the Oklahoma Student Testing Program, a tutor may help. Every lesson may be carefully designed to complement your child's personal learning preferences, so that they may study in a manner that works best for them.

Today with the student was fantastic. He worked very hard and has really grasped his multiplication tables. He simply needs to keep sharpening and practicing at this point.

The student had some unfinished classwork, involving congruent angles, and angles on a straight line. There were some questions that she answered incorrectly, because she didn't know which angles were congruent and which angles were equal to 180. I told her to think of it as the angles who share a vertex, are congruent. This made sense to her, and she was able to set the equations equal to each other, and therefore solve for x. The equations themselves were difficult, and involved variables on both sides, however the student completed them with ease. I showed her how to check her answer using substitution. Algebra is definitely the student's strong point. We also spoke about the state assessment test that she took recently, and what types of questions were on it. She remembered a particularly hard question involving the area of a compound shape. The compound shape involved a semi-circle, and a rectangle. The student didn't understand that she had to find the area of the circle and then halve it. She understands how to do these now.

This was the last session before the student's test. I tested her on all the concepts we've studied so far and she excelled in many of them. She was able to answer all of the multiplication problems quickly and correctly - she has definitely been practicing. She was also able to correctly compare fractions to see which is greater, and do the same for decimals - she is quite confident with these problems. Rounding, which we talked about last session, was still challenging for her, so we spent some time reviewing it. By the end of the session she was answering these types of questions easily, and I left her with some practice rounding questions to work on before the test. We also returned to our discussion of the division of fractions, which was the new concept we went over last week. As with rounding, she became more confident with the problems by the end of the session. Her skills have definitely improved in the last month or so, and she is a quick learner with patience and practice.

Today, the student and I reviewed three different homework assignments. We started with her Science homework. Today's lesson was on ecosystems. She read each passage aloud, then answered the questions on a separate sheet of paper. She got most questions right with no prompting. Next, she completed her current math homework, on a worksheet. The worksheet dealt with number lines and decimals. She's better with decimals now than when we first worked on them while she was studying for the ISEE. Finally, she had a few pages of English homework to complete. Her current homework is on homonyms - spelling and definitions. She worked very quickly through the first exercise, in which she had to fill in missing letters to complete some words. On the next page, she had to fill in missing words. Finally, she had to make a word puzzle for someone else to solve (me!), and she chose to make a crossword puzzle, specifically. She came up with some good clues! These clues were appropriate and accurate, but ambiguous enough to challenge the puzzle solver.
