Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did well today. We went over his math homework in word problems, various arrays and writing concrete sentences. He was able to do many calculations in his head and use his logical thinking skills in math. In writing sentences, he is learning how to better sound out words and use prior knowledge of letter blends to spell words correctly. Great job!"
"The student finished science and language arts homework; there was no new math concepts or homework, so I gave him practice problems for the remainder of the hour. He took a math test in school earlier and we are awaiting the results of that. His attitude and effort were very good."
"The student finished up his math homework for class; we went over scientific notation, and how to multiply and divide numbers written in scientific notation. He did well; this is review for him, since he has learned this material in previous years, so he just needed his memory jogged. "
"The student first had a worksheet covering Absolute Value equations that had two parts. One was solving the equations algebraically, which he did very well. He even avoided a common error with this type of problem. The second part was solving them through graphing which related to the last test he took. I found a couple of errors on these, but he made the same mistake on each one so they were easily correctable. Finally, he did another packet that went over what he didn't understand, including a couple of word problems."
"The student forgot her math homework at school, so we spent our session reviewing her triangle flashcards which she's gotten much better with! She said her mom has been working at home with her on 6's and 7's, and I'm hoping that with all of us working with her, those facts will get easier and easier! We also spent some time working on 2-step problems involving multiplication and started on division, but it was starting to get frustrating to her and our session was almost over so we did some more fact review and will hold the division until next session!"
"The student got a 100% on his last math test, so we were all happy about that. He finished his homework, so we did some ISEE exercises. We looked at one reading comprehension problem-- he manages to complete this problem set with two minutes to spare. We also did estimating and rounding problems as well as some algebraic techniques. Finally we went over some of the vocabulary we have been learning. We discussed our plans going forward with the ISEE. We want to take a full practice test at some point, and we want to decide upon the venue for the actual test. "
