"At this session, the student and I focused primarily on Geometry. He just had a large final exam in geometry, so we focused on new topics primarily consisting of Pythagorean theorem. He understands the material."
"The student has a test later this week on areas of regular polygons, kites, and rhombuses; areas of composite figures; the effects of changing dimensions on the areas of figures; and geometric probability. I devised several problems of my own to test him on all these topics. I deliberately created difficult problems to test his memory and reasoning abilities, and I found that he seems to understand composite areas quite well, especially for geometric probability problems."
"Most of the session was spent on doing geometry-related probability problems. I noticed that the student had a difficult time applying the larger concepts to the more specific problems, so I tried to break it down into more simpler terms for him. By then end, he had a better grasp on how to do the problems. Overall, I was happy to see that the student was more focused and motivated for much of the session."
"The student has a test coming up, so we completed a study guide that his teacher handed out. It was about parabolas and quadratics so we reviewed how to rewrite y = ax^x +bx+c as y = r(x-h)^2 + k or as y= r(x-s)(x-t). We went over how to derive the quadratic formula algebraically. We went over how to find the vertex and all other properties of a parabola. We went over some practical applications of max/min vertex problems given a cost, profit, or maybe height h(t) = -16t^2 + vt + c and time t and how to use the same strategies as before to get an answer."
"The student and I went over his homework assignment today, we began talking about sine cosine and tangents of right triangles, worked a little with similar triangles and covered polynomials for a couple problems. He is doing great! He is grasping the information very well and he's showing great improvement."
