Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through meiosis, utilizing her knowledge of mitosis to build on. We identified the key differences between the two as well as the importance of meiosis for creating diversity. I encouraged her to draw out meiosis and write what goes with each picture multiple times over the weekend to help her memorized it."
"We covered using the Law of Sines to determine the missing angles, side lengths, and areas of triangles (where we had to draw in the altitude). We also talked about forces acting upon masses on inclined planes."
"We went over his essay for History class. I tried to help him come up with generalizations from the episode that he could apply to his notes from history class. Then we did two English sections. The first we worked on together. He mostly had issues with commas. He just wasn't sure of his answers and needs to build confidence. Also, his mind seemed to wander. I asked him to complete an English, a Math, and an essay before we meet again next Sunday. We also decided on the April 13th date for taking it so that he has an idea in mind. "
"The student read another couple of chapters in the book. We practiced using context clues to figure out unknown words. I noticed improvement in her ability to sound out words and figure out the meaning, based on the surrounding text. She is also able to summarize the content of what she just read, demonstrating her understanding and comprehension."
"As I did last week, I sat at a side table with those out-of-class students. The class progressed together through the packet from question to question: students completed a page independently; after their work was graded, the teacher answered the problem on the projector while students followed along. I graded answers, and when an answer was wrong, after marking it so, I worked with the student to find the correct answer."
"During this session, we continued to review. I gave the students a few sentences to translate into Spanish. Overall, this session went well."
