Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished the study guide the student was given in class for preparation for his next exam. We cleared up a few things he had issues with regarding approach to some terminology."
"In this session with the student, we covered cellular respiration in detail, including clarifying the steps for glycolysis and the Krebs cycle. This session was my first time seeing him since the holiday break, and he informed me that he improved with a B+ in both Biology and Geometry. Even though those are good grades, he is aiming to bump them up to A's by the end of the school year, and we are going to focus on determining how to best prepare him to do that. During this session, his natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge was very apparent as he became familiar with each step of this complex biological process. In order to maximize his study efficiency, I made sure to have him continue to practice diagramming the steps involved in cellular respiration. In addition, I told him to try to form study groups with his peers so that he can practice reciting the steps out loud, a method that will surely help solidify the material in his mind."
"The student had a test the day after this session, so we spent the session studying for it (the test would cover evolution/Darwin/Hardy-Weinberg/etc.). I had her work through some evolution practice problems in her study book. I suggested that we spend the rest of the session working through some of her flashcard deck -- she has a great AP preparation deck that is divided into topics/sections (so it is easy to simply pull out all of the flash cards related to "mitosis" or "plant structure," for example). We didn't finish working our way through the flashcards in the section, but she seemed to learn a lot from the process, so she said that she would finish the flashcards after I had left. Even though this session was only an hour long, I think we made good progress on studying for the test. I think that by the time I had left, she was in a better place to continue studying."
