Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished a full Critical Writing SAT test and reviewed the student's strategies and answers. We also worked through a variety of reading and vocabulary exercises, as well as a few grammar concerns."
"We did an intro to SAT/PSAT, passage-based questions, factoring polynomials, simplifying fractions, geometry (circles), and identifying sentence errors."
"The session today covered several chapters and we were able to take a review quiz. The student was able to make note cards from everything that we covered and I assigned her homework for next time."
"We continued to review the math sections of the state assessment test, which the student is definitely starting to grasp more firmly. He had particular difficulty with the geometry sections, but after going through each problem carefully, he seemed quite a bit more confident. He will complete another practice test by next session."
"We covered a good amount of algebra and statistics. We went over some exponential growth and decay problems, percent and volume change problems, and data analysis Venn diagram problems, which were particularly difficult but she did very well! She was very motivated and took notes. We reviewed a few things that we did last time as well. Her grasp of geometry seems to be strong too, and we will expand on that in the next session. I look forward to working with her next week."
"We covered a lot of percentage word problems, and I believe that the student understands how to get the answers for them, but we will practice on more of those next week. We covered the use of process of elimination as a strategy for some problems, looking at the answers and narrowing down the possibilities. Also, we started work on some exponents and rules of multiplication and division for them. We will continue next week with more in-depth work on problems with exponents. I am going to send a practice test via email for the student to print out, and we will set a timer and go through the test together to work on strategy. Overall, it was a good session. I think that the student's persistence in learning something new is going to help her out a lot with getting prepared for the ASVAB."
