Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through a pretty wide range of topics. A lot of today was spent further narrowing down which topics the student needs to improve on, then practicing problems on those topics. Once he gets through practicing these topics, I'll have him take another practice test, and then we will reassess his standing."
"We went through an overview of concepts related to triangles, including types of triangles, sum of interior/exterior angles, right triangles, law of sines/cosines, and congruent and similar triangles. We also reviewed formulas related to permutations and combinations. The student did very well in understanding and responding to questions and enjoyed the information I presented. He will work on more practice problems, and we'll continue going over more geometry- and equation-related concepts."
"The problems we worked on this session mainly had to do with areas of triangles and composition of functions. She is starting to remember some of the things we have talked about previously and is incorporating them into her problem solving, but she says she still has a hard to solving problems from start to finish without any guidance. This just comes with a lot of practice, so she should make sure to study problems outside of our sessions as well."
"The student and I continued our work on not getting too committed to questions on the test and accepting a "pretty-good" response. She continued to show improvement when it came to choosing a useful strategy and is getting better at turning questions into mathematical equations and scenarios. We'll continue working on staying relaxed during the test and focusing on the task, rather than the panicking, which is a very difficult step to do."
"The student and I continued working in her GRE book through the quantitative section, covering geometric concepts as well as more strategies such as plugging in answer choices and choosing a value for a variable."
"The student and I dove into some math: calculating interest, graphing equations and inequalities, quadratics, and circles. It'd been awhile for her, but like most things, it was just like riding a bike. Next week will be split between geometry review and verbal reasoning practice."
