Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student to review recursive formulas (arithmetic and geometric), and we used the learning website to find some practice problems to review. With coaching, he was able to solve every problem, and by the end of the session, he could do them by himself. We talked about the plan for our next session-- focusing on reading comprehension and spelling as well as any questions he has from math class."
"The student and I covered math test-taking strategies, time management, and reviewed some important math topics: imaginary numbers, conjugates/rationalizing fractions, basic trigonometry, and word problems. We started to analyze about 8 problems - to start applying strategies to make sure she knew how to do them, and to also understand how to do them more quickly - an important skill for the SAT."
"We produced an outline for the next paper that is due. She began evaluating the guideline document using the agree tool while I put together an outline template for the paper based on the instructor's rubric and APA formatting."
"Today began with a matching review with the student's vocal words. I had her correct it herself and correct it to the correct answers. I then introduced her how to add and subtract fractions and decimals. She seemed to catch on quickly, as usual. We then read Chapter 3 of "Tuck Everlasting." We discussed some questions after reading and I was surprised how she caught onto just about every detail of the chapter. For homework, she is to finish the chapter packet and the review section, finish writing the last essay we planned for, the math worksheet, and finish correcting her vocab test."
"Today was my first lesson with the student. We each introduced ourselves and then started working through the SAT Math section. He has a lot of good instincts, but also has some knowledge gaps and makes some easy mistakes. I think he fundamentally can improve with the practice we'll be doing. I assigned him to finish the math section we were working on and to do the reading section for next time."
"We went over some test prep and strategies. We are going to identify where the student needs more help and regroup on Sunday. Her homework is to find where she is having trouble with the current set of problems. She had a great attitude."
