"I had the student take a reading diagnostic test today. She did great! The student felt more confident about the Reading section of the test. I assigned her targeted practice on the language component of the reading section, focusing on examples across the different types of reading passages she'd be exposed to on the test. At the end of our session, I assigned her mini tests on language under different types of passages for her to practice on between now and her actual test session date for the ISEE. The session went very well."
"Student 1: In Math we worked on mean, mode, median and range. We also did some word problems and practiced elimination strategies. In reading we practiced a variety of questions, including main idea, vocabulary in context, and inference. We also did some practice for the verbal section, looking at sentence completion and synonyms. All of the subject areas went well. Student 2: In Math we worked on more advanced mean and order of operations problems. We also did a little bit of algebra and talked about time-saving strategies."
"We started today's session by reviewing the sentences the student wrote for homework using vocabulary words that we reviewed last week. His sentences were very good - he made sure to include context in each sentence in order to show that he understood the definitions. We then went over the definitions to some new vocabulary words, some of which he will use in sentences for homework, the ones that he has trouble with. We then moved on to math problems involving ratios and percents. The student will also write an essay for homework, timing himself (30 minutes) in order to simulate the timed essay portion of the ISEE exam."
