Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued our study of math. We really focused on slope, y intercept, slope intercept equations, distance formula, midpoint, surface area, and volume of various figures."
"We began today's session by continuing our discussion of the essay. I wanted the student to see how to apply the general approach to essay-writing he has been taught: brainstorm main points, craft a thesis, write an introduction and conclusion. To that end, I began by picking a sample essay prompt from the ACT prep book and told and had the student write an essay. From there, he started creating an idea web based on his central concept, thinking of main points and supporting evidence. I then showed him how to take this rough conceptual sketch and organize it so that it could be followed to create an actual essay. I helped him craft a succinct, precise thesis statement that boiled down his main points, and showed him how to begin and end paragraphs, adding logical transitions as necessary, and what to do in the conclusion. He found this advice very helpful and appreciated having a specific example of the process to follow. We then spent the remainder of our session working together on English and reading practice. The student continues to improve."
"The student had a few questions over the practice English and Math work she did since last time, and then we spent the rest of the session practicing ACT science passages to re-acquaint her with the format and style of questions The student continues to improve."
