"We worked on the new assignment tonight. The student is getting better in programming, and we worked together to make the Flight class, which will be used in the main program."
"Worked on COBOL program #4A. Confirmed the social security/Medicare and federal tax figures are correct. Commented our code to get the QTD and YTD figures prior to adding to determine issues there."
"During our session we covered the concept of nested loops and how this can aid in speeding up the process of completing repetitive tasks. We also covered larger binary numbers, converting to decimals number from 0 to 255. Both boys are progressing well in regards to the nested loops and concepts, but I feel student one is progressing better with binary numbers mostly because he is able to compute calculations is his mind and swiftly. Student two is indeed getting the concept but it takes a little bit longer putting things together when converting. I feel both boys rush when doing their work, so I want to get them used to taking their time and checking their work properly."
"She is learning Java and MIPS languages. For Java, she is learning specific data structures. This initial lesson covered link-lists. We are bound to a simple link-list designed by the teacher. We were able to build the full assignment with the constraints given and then we focused on code optimization. Specifically, code organization that tries to avoid needlessly creating memory reservation and extra processing iterations by detecting data points ahead of time."
"Student A and I moved into a new section on if statements and repeat until, and she did really well with it. Student B and I kept progressing in the challenge problem set he's doing. It is requiring him to write code more formally, and he is taking to it well."
"The student and I spent time practicing how to do conditional logic, and change variable values. We also learned how to print debug values to the console, and to handle user mouse input. To achieve these lessons, we used more variations of the examples on the site. She seemed to enjoy the programming tricks she learned. She was a little overwhelmed, particularly with the concept of variables, as she says she is not a math person. I encouraged her to try some of the other examples on the page on her own time; you only learn through practice."
