Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I checked the student's homework. I answered questions he had on the math and we focused primarily on the reading. He did well overall, but we had to review some of the reading passages he did. I showed him where to find the answers in the passages and how to approach the reading passages in general. We had a lot of time to review reading strategies. I assigned him some homework when we were done."
"I put together a packet of 45 problems that the student has missed while working on various quizzes and tests in the past 2 months. We worked on these problems throughout the session. The problems are challenging, since they are the most difficult ones from each test. However, focusing directly on his' weaknesses will be great for test preparation."
"I read the students' new essays from last week and gave them feedback. We practiced more reading comprehension and focused on active reading, and then we focused on the Writing section. They are improving quickly!"
"I saw decent progress in the student this week. Aside from some larger concepts that are not taught until late in Algebra, like complex circle equation and manipulation, he is understanding how to work problems he had not encountered before we started tutoring. I assigned a Writing section for homework so that he can continue his practice in that, but I think our in person time will be best spent working on math, especially with how much it has already helped."
"I showed the student some geometry concepts that are commonly seen on the SAT. We will review and add to these in the next few sessions. He then completed an SAT section which we went over and talked about strategies that could be used for problem solving. I assigned homework for him at the end of the session, he will complete section 4 of test #2 in his SAT study guide. He should time himself and correct his answers. We will start the next session with a review of this section."
"I spent some time getting to know this student, talking about previous scores and what her class schedule looks like. We talked about good methods for outside practice and worked on some basic reading, writing, and math questions, to benchmark where she is on each. We will likely spend the most time working on the math section."
