Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the essay she wrote last week, going through it in detail starting with the structure and moving on to the writing of it. Her writing is always very clear; I encouraged her to be more direct and less repetitive. We also discussed how she can create a quick conclusion that finds the bigger picture. We continued with vocabulary (she will do a lot of vocabulary work on her own this week) and then looked at some tips for tackling reading comprehension."
"The student worked on percentages and order of operations in math. He should brush up on both, so I'll come up with questions. In reading, he didn't have too much trouble with finding the main idea, so we'll work on details and/or inferences next time."
"Today the student and I dived into another practice test, this time focusing on reading and quantitative sections. She continued to show signs of slight improvement, particularly in the mathematic and quantitative sections. We addressed a few remaining strategies for the section. I assigned her another practice test to complete for our next session."
"Today the student and I finished the sections regarding circle geometry, which were finding the diameter, radius, circumference, and area of a circle. We moved on to triangles, and focused mostly on right triangles, working on finding the lengths of the legs, the length of the hypotenuse (Pythagorean theorem), determining if right triangles are similar, finding the area, and finding the interior angles."
"Today was my first session with the student. She is a very bright girl. Just after this session, I can already tell that she is a hard worker and determined to be successful. We began the session with a mini interview to determine what her likes and dislikes are. We discussed where she struggles in school. I gave her a Reading Comprehension maze to see how her comprehension is. She did well with this activity. The passage I gave her was above her grade level. I also gave her a practice essay. The student is a good writer who just needs to tidy up her writing a little bit. We then began to work on math. I gave her a practice test, and we then began the process of reviewing the other problems and how to solve them. For the next session, we will go over more math practice problems."
"Today was our first session together. We worked entirely on the quantitative portion of the test. The student had done a diagnostic exam for the quantitative portion previously, so I had a good idea of what areas we should focus on. The brunt of our work involved statistics and geometry. For homework, I asked her to do another full quantitative section."
