Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered rates and percentages, which went well. The student needed help with fractions and word problems, so we will focus on that during our next session. Next week, she will take another practice test, so that we can monitor her progress."
"Today, we began our first session by discussing the student's prior testing experience, goal scores, strengths & weaknesses, and target test date. She is aiming for a 165 on both sections, which would be around a 10-point improvement on both. She feels stronger on the essays and does not want to devote session time to those at this point. For the last half of today's session, we did timed drills on the first few quantitative and verbal questions on Practice Test #1. Her timing is excellent, and she is already using fairly well-developed strategies on both sections. We should be able to focus primarily on the more difficult question types, especially on the reading comprehension portions of the test. Her vocabulary range at this point is also very impressive; we did discuss using an app to work on learning any additional words possible. On Wednesday, we will continue with both sections that we began today."
"Today, we completed the Quantitative Section of the GRE prep book. We continued to do some work on permutations and combinations, particularly in the area where it was difficult to determine whether order mattered and what to do when there were restrictions on individual items that could be used more than once but where order wouldn't be perceptible. We then moved on to the Verbal Section, covering the basic geography of the section. For our next meeting, she will read through the Sentence Equivalence and Reading Comprehension Chapters."
"Today, we continued with working on the math section, going over problems the student did over the weekend that he had trouble with. We also did some of the verbal section, but he is doing well enough and feels confident enough in this area that most of his future work will be done at home going over problems and studying vocabulary."
"Today, we covered all sections of the GRE. I pulled practice questions from a test prep book, which contained several challenging drills. The student did fairly well, and I noticed great improvement. I recommended that she continue to practice on her own and study her vocab flashcards, since her exam is this Saturday."
"Today, we covered more of the advanced quantitative homework and worked on a practice text completion section of the homework. While the student is performing well with math, he still needs help with the verbal section, namely remembering vocabulary. I assigned him more verbal and quantitative homework, with the added emphasis on working on his vocabulary list and reading comprehension."
