Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered probability and coordinate geometry. The student was quite comfortable with both, but then we moved to regular geometry and she began to struggle. We will continue to work on geometry during our next session."
"Today, the student and I went over the results of his diagnostic. We focused mostly on his math score. We started by looking at Data Analysis questions and reviewed the key components of DA: percent change, how to calculate an amount when given a total and a percent, and reading the clues of the question to make sure you are answering the question correctly. We then went over arithmetic problems, going over multiplying and dividing fractions. After, we went over some sets and statistics problems. He is going to do a math practice set for homework."
"Today, we began by discussing the student's previous and goal scores and her performance on the diagnostics she took. She is aiming for a total score of 300, with minimum scores of 145 on each individual section. She feels that she will need to focus more heavily on Verbal than Quantitative, though she does want to review some specific math content. She feels that her essay writing is strong and does not want to devote any session time to that area. We finished up today by working through some short Verbal timed drills to get an idea of her process and start discussing some strategies. We also talked about getting started as soon as possible with a vocabulary study plan, and I showed her an app as a suggestion in that area."
"Today, we completed a chapter in a GRE workbook. She had already moved through half of the problems, so we completed that and went over the remaining text where she had questions. We then started a new chapter on math, which covers probability and factorials. At our next session, we'll pick up with Permutations and Combinations. I will send her some study materials on that topic to supplement the text."
"Today, we completed introducing the geometry content, including quadrilaterals, polygons, solids, and coordinate geometry. The student did well with reasoning through the problems and recalling the formulas. He completed all of the homework that had been previously assigned. There were some minor errors made, but he was quick to recognize the mistake after we reviewed the homework. Most of this could be attributed to not reading the question carefully, so I suggested re-reading the question one more time before selecting a final answer. Tonight's homework included a comprehensive geometry review. I also suggested that he review the previous session's homework to improve accuracy."
"Today, we continued our survey of the math content of the test, working from the most recent practice problems that the student had done. This allowed us to discuss such topics as the Pythagorean theorem and remainders."
