Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student worked on test preparation. We worked through the chapter review packet and then did some extra problems to make sure he was confident working with parallelograms, rhombi, rectangles and kite shapes."
"Today we covered Chapter 5 test concepts: congruence of medians of a triangle theorem, using inequalities in a triangle and point-slope equation of a line."
"The student and I reviewed for her final next week. We were able to get through about half of her packet, focusing on the weaker areas. She did a great job!"
"The student has a test on Friday and we went through her review sheet, which covered truth tables and geometric proofs. We discussed conditionals, converses, contrapositives, and inverses, with an emphasis on Law of Detachment. She did well and showed a solid understanding. The trick may be to help her translate this to her test taking."
"We worked on determining the equation for the derivative of a function using the power rule. The student expressed concern that she didn't understand the material. However, after working through multiple examples and her homework sheet she quickly began correctly answering the questions. We worked through the process of how to find the derivative and how it related to average and instantaneous rates of change. She has an exam on the previous topics covered during session on Thursday, and I asked that she continue to practice more problems."
"Today, the student and I worked with parabolas and circles. With the circles, we found the vertices and the equation of the line tangent to the circle. With the parabola, we found the focus, directrix, and the line of symmetry. With the circle, we found the vertex, converted the equation to standard form, and found the equation of the line tangent to the circle. She has an exam on this topic tomorrow."
