Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed a pronoun study guide. We reviewed his math homework and assigned two more pages of math. He also completed a new section from a differentiated reading program."
"The student completed the assignments on the new sections that involved simple interest. She is able to use the simple interest formula to find interest amounts, rates, time periods, future values, as well as using the banker's rule and finding the true rate of discounted loans. In preparation for the test, we will be putting a study guide together to summarize the details. Then she took the quizzes over these topics. She was able to correctly address the logic question and remember the correct responses for the assortment of truth tables."
"The student completed the section on unit conversion and identifying the correct scale for graphing. She needs practice converting units using unit conversion factor and proportions. We will continue to work on this. She showed vast improvement converting basic units. She is a very self-motivated learner."
"The student did a good job in finishing up her worksheet. She can do unit conversion quite independently now. We reviewed more concepts on reading prescription and doses. She admitted that the problems with many words make her uncomfortable. I began urging her to explain the problems in her own words. I also noticed that the student is a visual learner, so I started incorporating more drawings in my explanations."
"The student did a great job in this session. He asked me a question about time and numbers right out of the gate so I decided to just devote this session to math. I taught him all about "columns." We worked up until the hundreds "column." I was showing him that, for example, the number 321 had three columns: the ones column, the tens column and the hundreds column. It took a little while for him to get all this but in the end he got it. I was very proud of him. We worked on addition like 40 + 40, and I showed him how to do this in a sum problem, and he gets it. He understood what I was showing him, and next time I will review it with him. I think that it was a really good thing to look at this math concept with him. He did a great job. Next time we will do some reading and writing, though I think he benefited from this math session."
"The student did a great job today! We quickly reviewed the formulas for volume and surface area, and then moved onto similar and congruent shapes, and identifying corresponding sides and angles. He picked it up very quickly, and had no issues with the worksheets that I gave him. We did do some proportions practice, as similar shapes have proportional sides, and he was able to pick that up quickly as well, which is fantastic! I gave him some homework, and I believe that I should be able to give him a quiz on this topic on Wednesday, and be ready to move onto the next section on quadrilaterals. We went through a quadrilateral classification exercise that I asked him to review for our next session, so that we can jump right on in."
