Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was a follow up meeting to discuss a few details and additions to the student's journals. We discussed revisions and suggestions, she completed the edits, and we reviewed the journals one last time. The student and I also spoke at length about the upcoming semester, continuation with her program, and the options she is weighing for both."
"I reviewed the students' final drafts of their essays, and helped them make finishing touches and polishing efforts to their essays. Student D wrote a very convincing essay on the concept of "being slow to anger and quick to forgive." He gave very relevant examples, both from his personal life and from our modern day society. His essay was very persuasive and supported the thesis quite well. His essay had some grammatical issues, which I highlighted for him. Additionally, he did not have a completed conclusion paragraph, so we worked at fleshing that out at today's session. Other than that, his essay is very good. Student H wrote a very strong essay about the same topic. She also used examples from her own life, as well as examples of prominent figures in modern society who demonstrated the same concept. I helped her make some minor sentence structure revisions, but other than that her essay is ready to go. I think both of these students have developed great writing skills in the short period of time I worked with them. I think they will do very well in the essay competition they are entering, and might even be among the top contenders. I wish them all the best!"
"We worked on three essays. There were still some examples of the patterns the student showed in the first session: contraction, starting sentences with conjunctions, 2nd person pronouns, and being general where specific details would work better. However, he did seem to notice and begin correcting these on his own after some prompting."
