Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student worked on editing essays that he prepared for his application to the college program. He needs to work on his essay structure and needs to read each sentence out loud to determine if they make sense."
"At today's session, I helped the students with an essay they are writing for submission into a competition. The essay is focused around the virtue of being "slow to anger and quick to forgive," and how this concept would be useful for resolving conflicts in modern day life. I reviewed the basic structure of essays with them, including: title, introduction and thesis, body paragraphs, and conclusion. I then had each of them think about how they wanted to develop their essays, and any special elements that they wanted to include. They each had a draft of an essay written, and I read both drafts and made necessary suggestions. Student 1 wanted to use 3 main examples of people who were slow to anger and quick to forgive. Student 2 took a slightly different approach. In her body paragraph #1, she wanted to discuss an imaginary character and how they were slow to anger and quick to forgive. In body paragraph #2, she wanted to discuss friends of hers from school, and how they demonstrated this virtue to help them resolve conflicts. In her 3rd body paragraph, she plans to discuss examples from her own life, where she was slow to anger and quick to forgive, and how this resolved conflicts for her. I think these 2 students fleshed out ideas for their essays quite well. Their father has scheduled 2 more sessions with me this week, to follow up on their essays and see how they are progressing."
"We met online to discuss and review needs for the journal. We spent the meeting discussing the needs and a plan of action. She had completed the journals and the rest was to review the grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. The next step will be handled via Google Drive."
