Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with the student, so we initially talked through his first experience taking the test and discussed where he felt he excelled and had more room for improvement. He scored better and felt more comfortable with the math and science portions, although he felt the math portion was the most difficult to manage time. He the has most room for improvement in the English, reading, and writing sections. We decided to focus on the English section after briefly discussing overall test taking strategies. For homework, the student will be reading through the rhetorical skills section and completing a practice passage, highlighting any areas that he finds troubling. I think that he will be able to increase his score quite a bit with practice, as he appears to be an engaged and bright student!"
"During this session we reviewed strategies for every subject. In English we reviewed punctuation: commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, double dashes . We discussed when to use each particular punctuation mark. We also discussed strategies for reading passages quickly, noting key words, noting topic sentences and closing sentences of paragraphs, and eliminating incorrect answers, such as extreme/irrelevant/incomplete/half-right answers. It was a good session."
"The student and I had a great first session yesterday. We discussed their scores on the diagnostics test that they took. We went over several complicated math problems as well. They are now feeling much better about that section. We then did some science practice in their test prep books, and they felt much better about those questions as well. It was a productive session."
