Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed 3 digits division, with or without a remainder. Since it is a fairly new concept, I'm trying to drill him on it until it becomes second nature. He's getting the hang of these problems. We will pick back up where we left off on Monday."
"During this session, the student and I continued to work on his math packet. The student and I reviewed Lessons 12 through Lesson 24."
"We are still working on her times tables. We worked on drawing out the multiplication problem to help see the relationships between the multiples of numbers with addition and multiplication."
"We worked on his second math unit this week. It focused mainly on review of addition and subtraction methods, and multi-digit multiplication and division. With quick reminders about which methods were which, he aced it!"
"In this session, the student and I reviewed adding and subtracting fractions. Today we also went further into turning the simplified improper fractions into mixed numbers, and vice versa. I mentioned to him how important it is to take neat notes in order to be able to refer back to them when necessary. I gave him a practice 6th grade test in order for me to be able to asses the areas in which he needs help."
"I used an old clock of mine and a drawing of a clock with hands to give lessons in telling time. I also briefly covered fractions like "half" and "quarter" in reference to times. I also recapped subtraction problems and used visual aids to make the process of borrowing clearer. In the remaining time, I played a dice game with him while instructing him to subtract his scores from the points he needed"
"He learned how to use a new method for dividing that demonstrates how multiplication and division are related. We will continue to work on this skill to make sure it is mastered. He is improving his multiplication skills. He got a 98 out of 100 on his last five minute test. We will continue to work with division and multiplication."
"We worked on a packet for introduction to calculus. He had a good understanding of most of the principles (quadratic equation, dealing with exponents, etc.). In our other session we covered more pre-calculus as well as graphing."
"The student and I worked on her physics and algebra 2 homework. She is currently learning about statistical analysis with standard deviations away from the mean and the corresponding probabilities. She successfully grasped the concepts for statistics, so we shifted our focus to her upcoming physics quiz. I believe that she is ready to excel in both classes."
"We reviewed slope-intercept form and graphing equations. We went over each of those problems covering topics such as cross multiplication, adding and subtracting fractions, and solving inequalities. The session ended with me teaching her how to multiply and divide decimals. We practiced this concept with a few problems. By the end, she was able to do problems multiplying or dividing decimals with ease."
"Today we covered chapters 8 through 10. He did great on problems that involved finding the area of one triangle. We will go over some more practice problems in our next session. For homework, he is expected memorize the formulas from last session, rewrite a problem we worked on and do a problem out of the book covering finding the area of a triangle."
"We went over about 45 minutes of 'general math', and also covered Pythagorean theorem (calculating hypotenuse of a triangle). We did more review of fractions with word problems as well. He is improving steadily in terms of understanding 'quick' math."
