"The student and I went over genetics; in particular, the use of a Punnett square and the idea of dominant and recessive alleles. We also began discussing photosynthesis, what it is and what goes into and out of the photosynthesis reaction. The second student and I went over how to complete the square to factor quadratic equation. Then, we went over single displacement reactions in chemistry."
"We prepared for the student's math exam, which covers graphing, determining properties of graphs, solving functions with given inputs, and word problems combining these areas. She knows definitions of terms but is still having issues recognizing what problems are asking for when they are presented in different formats. In order for her to understand certain problems, I began drawing pictures and relating properties of the pictures to algebraic terminology. She gravitated to this, but she still needs to write everything down in written sentences for it to resonate. Hopefully, by doing this continuously, she'll be better able to think through problems and identify what she needs to solve and how to do so. Also, the blog is very helpful in providing answers to the review worksheets. She should attempt to complete the worksheets and reference the blog for guidance prior to tutoring."
"Today worked on preparing the students for their exam on simplifying radicals and solving problems with exponential growth and interest problems. The boys did very well with exponential growth."
"Today, we covered more on polynomials, roots, imaginary roots, and finding the zeros using synthetic division. The student is catching on very quickly, and utilizing little "flags" to help remember how to approach each problem."
"This week, the student and I focused on preparing for her algebra test. We continued to go over practice questions, and spent time going into some more in depth understanding of the questions and how the same setup can ask us multiple questions, and to make sure we keep track of what the question is asking about specifically."
"Today we worked on the student's physics review. She just needed some help understanding the hanger mass problem and was concerned with her lab on the same. I explained to her the general process and showed her that her error in calculated acceleration and theoretical actually decreased over time, so she wasn't too off on her data."
