Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I covered aggregate transformations, including translations, reflections, and rotations. She understands transformations well enough, even in aggregate, though sometimes she has difficulty visualizing the transformations mentally, so I've been advising her to try and draw out any transformation, even if not strictly necessary to the problem at hand."
"The student and I went over continuity, the intermediate value theorem, and vertical asymptotes, mostly by reviewing the examples in the textbook. She then did a handful of the homework problems (one of each type) so she could complete the assignment. We have decided to not do a regularly set time each week, since her schedule is becoming more varied."
"The student and I reviewed for his biology test over plants. We went through the chapter along with his notes. He knew most of the material. I even quizzed him on some of the topics, and he answered most of the questions correctly."
"The student and I worked on the editing and publishing stages of the writing process. We decided on an editing checklist, and then she went through and began correcting her spelling, grammar, word choice, etc."
"The student and I went over the problems he missed in math, as well as strategies to help him overcome algebraically difficult problems. He also took a diagnostic in the writing section. We discussed things to look for including parallelism, active vs. passive voice, and plurality and tense congruency."
"In this session we repeated and tested the learned vocabulary and dialogues. Then we started to enrich her vocabulary about 'family', followed by some reading and dialogue practices. The student learned to read and write the months in German, and we talked about how to write the date in German. The student practiced again the numbers from 1 to 20 by reading telephone numbers out loud. I encouraged her to use some internet links for watching the German News. She progresses very quickly and it is fun working with such a motivated student."
