Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed Chapters 1-4 in her math book to go over main concepts needed for Algebra I. These concepts included the order of operations, fractions, mixed numbers, absolute value, word problems, and solving equations. She worked on multiplying and dividing fractions and solving fraction word problems. She reduced her answer to the final form. We also went over converting units of measurement (ex: 5 feet equals how many yards). She continues to have a positive attitude and is making great progress."
"The student and I went over order of operations and simplifying algebraic expressions. He took to the material rather quickly. I showed him a visual trick to help him with the addition and subtraction of negative numbers, and he was able to master the topic shortly after. We spent the rest of the session going over practice problems."
"The student and I went over some of her praxis questions that she had trouble with and broke them down step by step. She and I also worked on probability questions for her next praxis exam. I gave her some test taking tips, such as bookmarking questions she got wrong and eliminating answers that don't make sense. I am going to research some more praxis questions and we will continue to review the concepts when we meet again on Tuesday."
"The student and I went over the remainder of the first practice test in the book today and started the second part. We had to review some things, but with a little reminder, he was able to recall what he learned."
"The student and I went over the second third of her practice test for the math section of her teaching exam. We reviewed some algebraic concepts, which she retained well from the previous session. This session we covered the introduction to probability and combinations and briefly went over factoring and FOILing. Over the weekend, I will email her more practice on the above topics, as well as some reinforcement practice of isolating a variable and systems of equations. She was great to work with, and we have set up two more sessions next week before her test."
"The student and I went over x and y intercepts during today's session. He did fairly well with the material despite it being a bit difficult. We started reading a new book and attempted to tackle reading comprehension from a new perspective. He seemed to respond well, and I'm hoping that with prolonged exposure, he will improve his language arts skills."
