Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over some additional worksheets that she recently received. The material was on determining functional equations from given graphs of the functions. She understood the simpler examples, but had trouble working with some of the more complex problems (e.g., cube roots and exponentials). After creating a table of x and f(x) for x and y intercepts and additional helpful points, some of the "troublesome" equations were determined. She was going to review our approaches when she completed the worksheets later. "
"The student and I went over the last couple word problems on her test review. Then I gave her some practice problems of the types she found more difficult. She also had a few questions about a graph for her AP Bio paper."
"The student and I went over the material for her calculus quiz. We went over limits, indeterminate forms of limits, finding vertical and horizontal asymptotes, domain and ranges of graphs, using both limit forms of the derivative, working with the power rule, and finding derivatives of graphs at specific points."
"The student and I went through his online homework assignment. I walked him through the process of finding horizontal, vertical, and oblique asymptotes. We worked through every problem in detail, making sure he understood every step of the process"
"The student and I worked on applying derivatives to distance-velocity-acceleration problems. Her biggest hurdle on this material was keeping straight that acceleration is the derivative of velocity and velocity the derivative of distance/displacement; once she internalized that core concept, everything went smoothly."
"The student and I worked on concepts of transformations and its effects. We touched on end behaviors and zeros again. We looked through her last quiz and worked on some examples from a packet."
