Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered mean, median, mode, variance, Cvar, and standard deviation. The student was not struggling very much at all. It was of a matter of getting her through the steps and explaining them more clearly in plain English. The student's attitude was great! I did not leave her with any extra practice. She seemed to be understanding the material well and moving through it quickly."
"We covered normal distributions. The student was having trouble determining when to take values from the normal standard distribution table and when to subtract them. I gave him several ways in which he can better understand this differentiation."
"We covered regression models and their interpretation and application. The student had a great deal of difficulty understanding the concepts. We went through the material several times trying different approaches and she was able to develop a better understanding."
"We covered retirement planning, Bayes' formula, and counting. I think the most important issue to keep in mind is how to approach conditional probability problems. You should write out the probability you want to compute, the information given in the problem, and Bayes' formula. Then you start substituting in the probabilities given."
"We covered standard deviation, variance, ordinary least squares regression, the normal distribution and its key properties, as well as a case study problem in research design. The student has a positive attitude and we made good progress. Next week, we will review further questions from lecture and some more case questions in applied stats, as that looks to be most useful in preparing for exams in this class."
"We covered standard error, regression equations, specificity, sensitivity, conditional probability, confidence intervals, and z scores. We went through the questions from two previous tests to prepare for the final tomorrow. The student picked up the material well, and with some studying hopefully, she'll be able to remember all the equations!"
