"Today the student and I worked on telling time, comparing the size of numbers, and adding two digit numbers. The student's arithmetic skills have improved tremendously. We are now working to continue practicing those skills as well as some other foundation math skills."
"Today the student worked on a homework writing assignment and a math assignment. He did a great job with both. We then did some English test prep. In our next session, we plan to study for the ISEE exam for private school admission."
"Today the student worked on her math homework: writing numbers in standard, expanded, and word form. Also she worked on placement value, multiplication and division. In spelling she put basic spelling words into paragraphs. She also wrote a paragraph using challenge words. We finished our session with her reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Dog Days.""
"Today the student worked on his math homework. He struggles with multiplying fractions. He got a pretty good grasp after I showed him how to multiply whole numbers and fractions. He needs help understanding the concept of multiplying fractions with area models. We agreed to focus on math fluency as well, as thinks he struggles with while completing his homework during future sessions. The student always has a positive attitude and tries very hard, no matter how difficult the problem is, and he's not afraid of asking for help or to repeat something when he doesn't understand."
"Today the students reviewed multiplication, addition, and subtraction facts with playing cards. They then did a review sheet on addition and subtraction and some problems with regrouping. They finished finish their homework. The second activity involved answering some questions about a table showing colored shirts preferred by girls and boys. I showed them a few tricks to multiply by 9, followed by a worksheet of multiplication by 9. Both boys will finish this worksheet for homework. Their Mom will send out their homework for next Friday, as the boys are in different classes this year and doing different skills. This will give me a better idea of what they are doing in class."
"Today was a good session with the student! We started the session with the "scoot" game, which was numbers scattered around the kitchen that he had to find and round to the nearest hundred. He did really well on that, and hopefully burned off some energy! Then we moved to his homework, specifically on the factoring. I tried to teach him some tricks (even numbers are always divisible by 2, if you had the numbers together and that result is divisible by 3, then that number is divisible by 3, if it ends in 0 or 5 it is divisible by 5, etc...). He was a little slow to remember how to do division as well, but was more confident by the end of our review. We got through most of factoring, and next time I will bring some more multiplication and division so he can practice!"
