Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished the unit exam then moved onto the next unit on derivatives. We learned about the limit definition of a derivative, and I showed her how to find a derivative using power rule, which she will learn later. We went over the suggested problems in the first section, and I asked her to try to complete the second section's questions on her own."
"We first started off with a rather difficult quotient rule problem involving trig functions. She knew the derivatives. Then we covered the derivatives of mainly exponents, and except for a few mistakes, she is following along. We anticipate that our next session will be a review for next Friday's test."
"We first went over his class notes on tangent lines and the definition of derivatives. I explained to him how the limit may be used to compute the derivate of various types of functions. We then looked over his review worksheet for his upcoming exam. It consisted of limit expressions, and we discussed various strategies for how to approach each type. I urged him to work on the ones we did not complete."
"We focused heavily on the different types of rules of derivatives like chain rule. We looked at what happens when these rules are mixed and how quotient rule can be avoided by flipping the problem. We then continued on to what is implicit differentiation and related rates."
"We focused on finding domains of functions, matching functions with their graphs, and modeling equations based on word problems. We then focused on trigonometry -- specifically, I worked with the student as she derived her own unit circle. This will come in handy with her trig-based calculus problems. Lastly, we focused on reviewing limits, specifically calculating limits (as the function approaches zero) of functions where the x is in the denominator."
"We focused on limits and their different variations. The student only needed help reviewing certain formulas such as the sigma delta formula that is used to calculate a limit for boundary functions. He was very cooperative and diligent."
