How can a Science tutor help you?

Science is an interest that fascinates many students, and stumps others. There are many scientific topics your child could learn in school. Not only might your student learn facts about the natural world; they will also experiment with and see topics by themselves. They are going to explore life science, geology, relativity, and weather. Even if your child is engaged, it may sometimes be hard to keep up with the class. Call Varsity Tutors today to find science tutors in Newton, MA, for your student, and obtain them ahead of the game.

Whatever their needs, goals, and learning style, our educational directors can help your student to find a skilled science tutor near Newton. They could help them stay afloat in class, or offer preparation for the MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) exam. There are numerous different materials to help students learn science; your son or daughter's tutor can find exactly what could help them excel, even when this means using an alternative teaching method. You might find your student learns more, while spending less time and energy. An alternate to the "one-size fits all" approach of the classroom is usually precisely what is needed.  Science tutors can share their own special interests and enthusiasm to help to "spark" the scientific interests of your youngster.

Newton, MA Science tutoring
The student and I continued to work on moles and related concepts, shoring up his knowledge and answering questions he had about the subject. The student is doing well and has a test coming up this week, which will give me an opportunity to see if everything I have suggested to him and taught him will garner good results. He has aced his last few quizzes, which is a good start.

The student received a 94 on latest assignment. This session was spent on preparing for the upcoming test on Monday. We reviewed balancing chemical equations, types of chemical reactions, and nomenclature of compounds. We conducted practice with going from words to formulas of chemical equations and vice versa. I also went through each aspect of the study guide for areas of concentration and review especially the polyatomic ions. I also provided additional practice problems to be completed after the session.

Today we began going over quantum chemistry. The student's class is covering the basics thus far: Bohr model of the atom, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, and calculations for energy based on the speed of light and frequency, and electron configurations. She did okay with the energy calculations. She was having trouble understanding the electron configurations, so we went over the lecture slides and worked through several worksheet problems. By the end I felt that the student was getting a better understanding. I highly recommended that she read the text book for the material since she missed the lectures. That will also aid me in knowing what material she really doesn't understand versus just not being familiar with it which is causing the issue.

This is a new student of mine who's actually not having much trouble in Chemistry. However, she was somewhat confused at the concepts. I cleared up these concepts with her (limiting reactants), and she seems to be doing fine now.

We began by covering Electron Configurations of Atoms. The student was quick at solving the problems and seemed to grasp the material well. We then reviewed gases (i.e. real vs. ideal gases, Dalton's law, and partial pressure). The last topic covered was enthalpy and calorimetry. I left the student a long practice problem supplemented with an online video. Next session I plan to introduce more problems of this sort to ensure mastery of the subject.

Newton, MA Science tutoring
We have covered a special AP Physics 1 sample test, questions 1-26. We have solved all given problems and will continue and finish up tomorrow. The student can solve most of the problems in a timely manner and accurately, but we have added a few more strategies and tactics to speed up the considerations and calculations. For instance, the coefficient of friction will be equal to tan alpha where alpha is an incline angle. Other strategies include figuring out free body diagram completely as a first step, and then calculating the normal force and then proceed to friction force. The student will go over the problems that he got wrong working on his own later today, and we will check with him again tomorrow.
