Newton, MA Physiology tutoring
Today, we worked on intermolecular forces and electron configurations. The student has been challenged by intermolecular forces for awhile, and he can still use some practice. However, he has improved quite a bit. As for electron configurations, he has done quite well on the practice questions. I gave him quite a few trick questions, and he did not fall for most of them. I am confident that he will at least achieve a decent grade on his exam.

We caught up on some material that was covered in class over the past couple of weeks. A short review of organic chemistry should be sufficient before your short upcoming test. The newer material on Redox & Electrochem is a long chapter, but at the end of the term it seems you will be getting an abbreviated version! Differentiating between the oxidation and reduction half reactions is an important first step. We also came up with a good method for solving for the half life of different elements. The math is very simple, and it's really a matter of figuring out what value you are solving for!

The student and I covered genetics topics today. We worked on Punnett square problems for most of the session and through this we dealt a bit with the cell cycle and meiosis. She seems to have a good grasp of the application, but struggles slightly with how to set up genetics problems. She also had some problems today with identifying specifically what the question was asking when we did some practice problems. She hasn't shown this problem in the past so I am not worried about this.

First we looked at Lewis electron dot diagrams of diatomic gases then those of many common elements, their ions and how they combined to form either ionic or covalent compounds. The student's exam is coming up very soon, so for the second half we looked at some equation balancing and stoichiometry questions I brought.
