Today we discussed the following topics---- 1. Metal are electropositive elements with loose electrons to form Cations (positively charged ion). 2. Non metals are the electronegative elements which gain electrons to form Anions (negatively charged ion). 3. Isotopes are the atoms of same elements having same atomic number but different mass number. Example: three isotopes of hydrogen are protium, deuterium and tritium. Remember it is always the number of neutrons which differ in isotopes of element. Note that during the formation of ions from an atom, the subatomic particle that changes in number is electron, other subatomic particles namely protons and neutrons number do not change. We discussed about Periodic Table which consist of 18 Groups (vertical columns) and 7 Periods (horizontal rows). Group 1, 2,13 to 18 elements are called Main Group elements or Representative elements. Group 3 to 12 elements are called transition elements.

The student and I checked in about class and her schedule. We decided to go through her homework - gas laws, and then review for her next unit test. After homework we made a good list of all the concepts, formulas she needs to have memorized as well as conversion factors, strategies, and then I created some practice problems. I encouraged her to let me know if she had time to meet before the test on Friday, and to email/text me with any problems that came up.

The student had a lot of work to do because he missed school on Monday and Tuesday. I helped him pick out three quotes from "Hacked" and write a paragraph on each about why these were key to the book. He has a math quiz tomorrow, so I helped him with two types of problems he was unsure how to approach.
