Today the pupil and I began reviewing for his final exam. I first asked him how he did on the essay portion of the exam on Friday. He said he felt comfortable with the topic and was ready to start reviewing. We began discussing events spanning prehistory to 600 B.C.E. I suggested he go through his notes and resources his teacher gave him and mark the concepts he is unfamiliar with. Then he can search online or in his textbook to retrieve the necessary information and create a study guide catered to his needs. I also instructed him to get through at least two sections of a periodization each night using this strategy. I will check on his progress during the next session.

I have agreed to help her in the next week as much as possible. We will communicate by phone and email with any questions she has. I do recommend that we work together in the coming semester so that I can help her prepare for the exam. I recommended that she makes sure she knows all the vocabulary that she has gone over this semester

We covered European history from the Treaty of Westphalia through the scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment of the 18th century. We explored themes of the struggle between absolute monarchs and the nobles and bourgeoisie in France and England as seen in the English Civil War and Constitutional Monarchy vs. the golden rule of Louis XIV. We talked about how the struggles were similar and how they differed, and the rise of the Austrian Hapsburgs (later Austria-Hungary) and Hohenzollern Prussians as a result of Louis XIV's defeat in war and the subsequent decline of the Spanish empire.
