In the student's first class, we reviewed the format of the new SAT and started basic math concepts. We went over numbers and operations, stressing systems of linear equations. We went over ratios, proportions, percentages, number lines, the counting principle, and probability, along with mean, median, and mode. I gave him homework for next week. His attitude was very good.

In this session, the student and I covered topics in all sections of the SAT. She felt the mathematics section questions were where she could most improve. She showed a great attitude towards learning the material on the SAT and practicing problems. She was forward in letting me know which parts she wanted more explanation with, and I think this was helpful in her learning process. We discussed that in the next session we will do a full review of concepts in geometry to prepare her for those types of questions.

In this session, the student covered inverse functions and the unit circle. We discussed unit conversions between degrees and radians, and determining possible values for domain and range of functions. We worked through several SAT problems related to this material. The student is instructed to work on a full SAT math problem set, which I sent to her via email. In addition, we reviewed some of the concepts from our first session.

In this session, the student went over the problems he had completed for homework from last time. We looked at some problems related to interpreting graphs and tables, as well as the three types of equations that can represent parabolas and what each type tells us. We also spent time going over the difference between a system of equation having one solution, no solutions and infinitely many solutions, both graphically and algebraically. For homework, he will complete a math calculator and math non-calculator section of the SAT, as well as an SAT writing section, which we will review in our next session.

In this session, we began by working on the SAT math section. We went over almost all of the questions the student did not answer correctly on his PSAT. Overall, it seems the student's greatest difficulty is the time constraint, as he noted that he was surprised that he answered a few of these questions incorrectly. As it is easy to rush through questions towards the exam, I hope to work with him on strategies to budget his time better and choose answers in a pinch with greater accuracy. His math skills are on par, as he was quick to write down important information and set up equations once prompted with some hints or additional information.
