Today, we focused on the GRE quantitative section. We began the session reviewing the student's most recent practice exam, and he told me how the test went and how he felt he did. We spent most of the session reviewing problems he missed on the practice test, which provided ample teaching opportunity. I used these problems to go over some key GRE concepts - 3/4/5 and 30/60/90 triangles, basic trig, and exponent rules, for example. I also taught him the plugging in strategy. I had him practice the math rules just learned for about a half hour to better reinforce the information.

Today, we focused on the student's last practice assignment and examined some word problems and equation sets. Her biggest problems were with probabilities and vocabulary, so we placed an extra focus there. After completing the review, we moved on to word problems. I emphasized that the majority of the challenge for such problems comes from turning the sentences into equations. After a few examples, she appeared to pick up on the concept quickly. To help her prepare for her exam, I will send her some more problems based on the new subjects as well as probabilities and word problems so she can get some more experience there.
