Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over quite a bit of material for the coming week, regarding exponential and logarithmic functions. He seemed like he really grasped it with relative ease. This is not the first time I have thought that the student has a natural knack for certain aspects of math. I really do hope he does AP calculus next year."
"The student and I went over ellipses and hyperbolas, and practiced putting equations into the proper format as well as graphing them properly. In addition to problem-solving and graphing, we went over the differences between horizontal and vertical ellipses/hyperbola, as well as the significance of the foci. He seems to have a much better grasp of simplifying equations for conic sections and has greatly improved in graphing conic sections. I was informed that he has a quiz that focuses solely on this material and I am confident that he will do well."
"The student took her chapter 7 exam the previous week. Although she hasn't received the graded test back yet, we took notes on problems she had questions over. This running list will be very beneficial in preparation for the class final in May/June and will help me to prepare better study guides for the final. We then moved into material from chapters 8.1 and 8.2. Material introduced included the law of sines and the law of cosines. We completed several practice problems then moved onto her homework assignment which we were able to complete by the end of our session."
"The student has a quiz tomorrow on transformations of sine and cosine functions, so we spent our time reviewing for that, and also completing his homework (on that same topic). By the end of our time together, it definitely seemed as though he understood the concept. He was great at graphing precisely and determining the transformations from the equation."
"The student asked that we split the time covering the beginning trigonometry sections and the rest of the time working online exponential and logarithmic problems. He said his current grade is a around a C+. He wants it to be better -- that's our goal! It appears that he has a very solid foundation of algebra; he's just concerned about the tests. He said he'd let me know when the next test will be so we can prepare."
"We covered sum and difference trigonometric identities and double angle formulas. We worked through homework practice problems to prepare for the test. The student seemed confident in the material once we reviewed it."
