Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed mathematics section of student's previously administered and scored practice exam, and discussed solutions to trouble problems. Identified areas in which student would like to see improvement in mathematics."
"Introduced myself to the student and assessed which areas she had trouble with - mostly vocabulary and word problems. I taught her sentence completion techniques and a general math problem solving strategy, and we practiced sentence completion problems and a few open ended math problems."
"We covered two more sections in the student's practice test. We made a list of target areas for the math sections including exponent rules, multiplying binomials, factoring, special right triangles, Pythagorean triples, and memorizing powers. I assigned homework accordingly. We also discussed a plan for vocabulary practice leading up to the test"
"In this session, I started by reviewing graphs. This involved slopes of lines, interpretation of graphs, x and y intercepts, and transformations of graphs. The student did well on most of the graphing problems. Some problems were tough for her, but with some explanation, she improved. After I felt we spent enough time on graphs, I decided to review her algebra. She struggles most with interpreting and setting up word problems. After spending time on word problems she improved. She will still need to practice word problems in order to become comfortable with them. She is doing well overall, but still needs some more practice before the test."
"The student and I worked on a review assignment for an upcoming exam. We started by reviewing how to approximate a square root without a calculator. I then checked the problems she completed on the Pythagorean theorem. Upon inspection of these questions, I noticed just a couple errors. I had her repeat these questions after pointing out the mistakes. She proceeded to do well. Next time, we will continue working on homework and preparing for the final."
"We practiced all of our verb tenses. We worked on pluperfect and imperfect subjunctive and filled out a complete verb synopsis. We also went over the student's classwork and practiced problematic grammatical items. It was fun."
