"The student practiced proper capitalization and words derived from other languages. He was astute in his knowledge of capitalization, and he knew the new words he was given (kindergarten, chipmunk, pretzel, dinghy, loft, pecan, bungalow etc.)."
"The student read two passages that were non-fiction and answered reading comprehension questions. He also practiced spelling words and wrote sentences. Overall he did well."
"First, the student and I wrote another poem. Again, we carefully looked it over for grammatical errors. I gave him a spelling test and he is scoring better than he did previously, which shows he is paying attention. We finished with 20 minutes of reading."
"Tonight I tried something a little different with the student. We spent most of our time stretching sentences and adding more visual attributes to past stories that we've written. Since the student liked this activity so much I will expand on this and add more of the visualizing verbalizing program content as well."
"We did the sight words. We added 5 words. We practiced a sheet of, identify short "o" words. We did some onset and rime practice. She is very good at that. We did a sheet, identifying and writing short "u" words. She did well. We read "The Lorax". She needed help with this. She read a, short "u" passage. She did very well. She did a sheet, filling in the missing vowel in CVC words. She did very well. I introduced long "a", and we did a sheet, identifying long "a" and short "a" words. She needed some help. We went over sight words at the end."
"Today, we reviewed several essays with both low and high grades. We discussed how these essays could be improved to earn higher scores. We also practiced timed multiple choice sections and we will go over these answers next session. We also practiced timed writing and strong thesis development. Finally, we discussed common structures for essay writing and how to make these flow in a natural progression towards a conclusion."
